Repairs, overhauls and retrofit:
Ensuring performance

Repairs and overhauls are usually regarded as the straightforward elimination of damage and wear and tear. We at Deutsche Plasser take a different view. For us, every job creates an opportunity to secure the machine’s full performance. What’s more, with a retrofit we extend the service life of a machine and ensure its availability for many years.

A retrofit upgrade means that the intact basic elements of the machine remain and that only those areas are reconditioned and renewed that the customer has selected. Only those components are replaced that result in higher productivity due to new technologies. Typical examples would be the DRP data recording device, the new SmartALC guiding computer or rotation speed modulation for tamping units.

First we analyse, then we define your order

In the case of both repairs and overhauls it is standard for Deutsche Plasser to analyse the machine’s condition. This happens before we commence work, as the action to be taken is based on this analysis.

Ultimately, the decision always lies with the customer. But we enable customers to base this decision on clear facts and a precise calculation.

Cost and time speak in favour of a retrofit

Of course, a lot depends on the current condition of the machine but upgrading a machine to the latest technology is nowhere near as cost-intensive as the purchase of a new machine. We assume that the cost of a retrofit lies well below the purchase price of a new machine. Even more favourable is the time frame. A retrofit takes eight to ten months, depending on the scope of work and the size of the machine. After that, the machine will go straight back to work on the track.

The approval remains valid

After an upgrade, a machine can only be deployed straight away if the approval remains valid. Deutsche Plasser will ensure that this is the case. As a partner of Plasser & Theurer, we have direct access to the machine master data, and so we know exactly what upgrade work can and cannot be performed.

Thanks to these specialists we can offer repairs and overhauls where costs and benefits remain in an economically viable relation.
